Extensive failures by local authorities and police forces mean they are struggling to keep pace with the changing nature of sexual exploitation of children by networks, a report by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse has found. It says children are being sexually exploited by networks in all parts of England and Wales in the ‘most degrading and destructive ways’, with many exploited children raped or sexually assaulted repeatedly, over a period of months or even years.
The Inquiry will publish its 18th investigation report, Child Sexual Exploitation by Organised Networks, at midday on 1 February 2022.
The Inquiry Information Line will close at the earlier time of 1pm on Christmas Eve.
The Truth Project, part of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, has now come to a close. More than 6,000 victims and survivors of child sexual abuse have come forward to share their accounts.
The public hearing for the Child Sexual Exploitation by Organised Networks investigation concluded in October 2020. On closing the hearing, the Chair said that the Inquiry hoped to publish the investigation report in late summer/autumn 2021.
