Inquiry to hold further seminar on mandatory reporting

18 April 2019

The Inquiry is set to hold a further seminar on mandatory reporting on April 29 and 30.

The seminar will consider the arguments for and against making the reporting of child sexual abuse a legal requirement in England and Wales.

It will be held at the Inquiry’s hearing centre at 18 Pocock Street, Southwark, London.

Participants include experts from the NHS, NSPCC, Department for Education and the Scouts, as well as charity representatives and victims and survivors.

Inquiry publishes summary of victims and survivors’ views on mandatory reporting

The Inquiry has today (April 3) published a summary of victims and survivors’ views on mandatory reporting.

Members of the Inquiry’s Victims and Survivors Forum were asked whether they supported the introduction of legislation which would make the reporting of child sexual abuse a legal requirement in England and Wales.

Inquiry publishes report on Children in Custodial Institutions

The Inquiry has today (February 28) published its report on the sexual abuse of children in custodial institutions.

The report examines evidence of appalling abuse and institutional failures to protect children in the youth secure estate in England and Wales, as heard during two weeks of public hearings last July.

Focusing on the period from 2009 to 2017, the report shows that children held in young offender institutions and secure training centres are still not safe from sexual abuse.

The Inquiry has published a research report on safeguarding procedures in the youth secure estate, focusing on child sexual abuse.

The research provides direct accounts from children and staff at young offender institutions, secure training centres and secure children’s homes across England and Wales.

New research from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse has found over half of victims and survivors who came forward to the Inquiry did not report that they were being sexually abused at the time it was happening.

Inquiry launches national TV campaign for the Truth Project

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse is today launching a landmark television public awareness campaign to ensure victims and survivors of child sexual abuse have the opportunity to be heard at the Truth Project.

Created in consultation with victims and survivors, the Truth Project campaign aims to encourage people to share their experience in writing, on the phone or in person, as well as create a public discussion around the impact of child sexual abuse.
